Dr. Prem Aggarwal  M.S.

He is the Founder Chairman and Medical Director of Aggarwal Eye Hospital. He is a cataract and refractive surgery specialist and an active clinician and surgeon.

Dr. Prem Aggarwal received his basic medical education and post graduate training in Ophthalmology at the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital, Sion Mumbai in 1981 and 1984 respectively. He went on to Head the Ophthalmic Department at civil hospital, Dhule as a representative of the 20 point programme under the National Progamme for Control of Blindness. During this period, he worked in many eye camps and operated thousands of poor and needy patients to give them vision. The dream of making world class eye care available spurred him to set up Aggarwal Eye Hospital in 1989 in the heart of Mumbai when private eye hospitals were virtually unknown in our country. He started his career in a humble way with a passionate desire to create an Eye hospital to eradicate blindness. Starting from a very small setup with just a slit lamp and a vision drum, the hospital has since continuously excelled and maintained innovation in eye care, clinical and surgical services. Dr. Prem has over the years, inculcated a professional vision for holistic ophthalmic patient management that has touched the heart and mind of innumerable patients.

Dr. Prem is a knowledgeable, conscientious, and compassionate eye surgeon. He believes in the importance of investing time into educating patients about their health concerns and believes that trust, patience, and a sense of humour are important ingredients in a healthy doctor-patient relationship. “My main goal in life is to use the talent God has given me to serve others. I strive to do things right and embrace the challenge to continuously improve my techniques, reduce the risk to my patients, and obtain the best results I possibly can. I feel blessed to be able to perform eye surgery, and find the same enjoyment in performing microsurgery now that I first experienced 30 years ago.” Dr. Prem believes as a professional his primary obligation is to the patients and their choices. He believes in providing quality examination and using technology to help in caring for patients. Dr. Prem specializes in cataract surgery and refractive surgery. Having being in private practice for over 29 years, he is an extremely experienced cataract surgeon having performed over 1 lakh cases. During those years he has had experience with all types of cataracts, including the most difficult to treat. Dr. Prem customises the treatment options to each individual circumstance, as no two individuals are alike to provide the best refractive outcome. He offers the choice of premium intra-ocular lens implant including Toric and multifocal IOL, and will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each technique.

Dr. Prem is also passionate about charity work. He is one of the founding member of Aggarwal Eye Foundation, a charity organization that performs free cataract surgery and other eye surgeries at subsidised rates for the poor in Mumbai. Dr. Prem also provides volunteer services for the Lions clubs, Rotary club and other organizations. For his work, he has received numerous awards for the prevention of eye diseases, including the Lions distinguished, “Humanitarian of the Year” award.
